Founded in 1880, Horgenglarus is Switzerland’s oldest manufacturer of chairs and tables and boasts a collection of modern classics by renowned designers such as Werner Max Moser, Max Ernst Haefeli, and Hans Bellmann. Notably, Le Corbusier showcased chairs crafted by Horgenglarus at his Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau during the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, which was held in Paris in 1925.

Horgenglarus’ longstanding focus lies in the distinctive combination of form and function. The company propels the modernist ethos and its ideals into the 21st century by seamlessly combining traditional expertise and highly skilled craftsmanship with cutting-edge techniques to create meticulous designs, which are entirely handcrafted in Switzerland.

In collaboration with Feurer Network, which has been responsible for the company’s corporate communications since 2002, Optimo crafted a bespoke typeface based on Antique Legacy. Designed by François Rappo, the Horgenglarus typeface revitalizes the distinctive identity of Swiss typographic modernism and shares a common DNA with the Horgenglarus brand.

The Horgenglarus typeface is characterized by angular versions of a series of characters, as well as rebalanced glyphs. The refined simplicity and robustness of these features evoke elements reminiscent of the components of chairs and tables. This customized typeface effortlessly aligns with the aesthetics of the 21st century while also clearly conveying the identity and core values of Horgenglarus.
